A note to my loyal followers...

Dear readers.  First off, if you cannot tell based on the fact that I have just addressed you, this will be the first (of a possible series of) interactive blog post (s).
I might ask a question which you get to answer.  I don’t really care what you answer, nor does you saying it out loud from all the way over there affect me even slightly. But it gives you the feeling that I’m listening. Which perhaps I am.

I wonder, do you care that you don’t hear from me for a week, and then you get a post that is a few days old… or 3 at the same time, so in fact you are reading about Amsterdam when I am actually 2 countries past the Netherlands?  Sometimes I feel like thoughts and stories I have are too good (for me at least) not to share… or maybe sharing with you helps me process, or feel less homesick (so does bumping into fellow midwesterners)
but other times I think, maybe I should just stick to the point… where am I now, what am I doing, and where am I going next.

But then I think…nahhhh, when have I ever stuck to the point (except in presenting my thesis), so why start now? And you always have the option to move onto the next post. Or just the pictures or something.  So anyway… I digress.  But the following couple of posts are out of date as I currently find myself in Köln, Germany…

by the way, this is me and Obama (clearly) in the Museumplein in Amsterdam.  Part of the "elephant parade" fundraiser in Amsterdam for Asian Elephants.

This is bear trying to steal a bike on his last day in Amsterdam.  Shame on you bear. This is why they tell you that you need 2 locks on bikes in the Netherlands.

Cheers!

  1. Post, post, post! I'm pretty sure if I decided to fly across the pond to find you, I'd still be able to track you down by the trail of confused expressions, hysterical laughter, or swooning train station attendants... even if your blog post dates don't match your exact location.

  2. She put it very well, especially the confusion and swooning.... I'd just add that I think we're all just stoked to get to be plugged into your (and Bear's) adventures and while we'd love more, the only thing we'd rather than more stories and observations is that you be spending time having adventures.

  3. first of all, do not tag me as that elephant statue when you put that pic up on FB. second, bear likes his orange portland bike better than that rickity ol euro bicycle. finally, i love reading your posts and hearing what is happening on your journey!

p.s. Brenna is coming to visit this week :) wish you could be here too!
