Up a very large creek... anybody have a paddle?

I'm off to the Rheinland...
Following are the chronicles of my travel up the Rhine River to fulfill the Scott Fellowship I received at the end of my master's program in Environmental Planning at University of California, Berkeley.
This page contain not only the results from my research, but also bits from my daily adventures and maybe... just maybe... even a new joke or two and hopefully some terrible flooding puns.  If you want more information on the basis of my research, read on to the Research post. Otherwise, see you on the river.

Here is some basic info on the area... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhine

My rough agenda (more details to come):
11-September Amsterdam, Netherlands
13-18 September: Delft, Rotterdam, Delta Works projects
18-25 September: Amsterdam, NL
25 September- 2 October, ?? NL
2 - 9 October: Koln (cologne) Germany
then... Dusseldorf, Aachen, Munich, Karlsruhe, Berlin, Dresden (in no particular order)
Late October: Strasbourg, France
November: Basel, Switzerland up to the headwaters, Vorderrhein, Switzerland
If you will be in the area or would like to be, please send me a note!

In search of the leaky levee,

  1. You think the flooding was bad on the Rhine? Think about Dubai, the water got so high that the cockroaches from the finest restaurants had to move to the Highest Town Houses to avoid being swept into the desert which was still dry. How about those creatures?? Have fun. Gramp

  2. Since you are mentioning the creek let's make sure you use the whole thought. I think it goes: Up a well known creek, due to circumstances beyond my control, without proper means of locomotion. "My Kingdom, My Kingdom, for a Paddle."

  3. Hey Jess, Mr. B told me to tell you "hi" and to ask if it was cool for him to nap in your room while you're gone.
